What is an End-Of-Life Doula

Supporting Families Through Advanced Illness, Practical Planning, and Gentle End-of-Life Caregiving Relief

An end-of-life doula (or death doula) is a trained, non-medical companion providing emotional, practical, and educational support before, during, and after death. At Serenity, serving Southeast Nebraska, Northern Kansas, and the tri-state area, I focus on dignity, comfort, and legacy. I work alongside hospice and medical professionals to ensure families feel supported and less afraid.

How a Doula Supports You

Through tailored, gentle care, I assist with:

  • Emotional & Physical Support: A calming presence for the individual and family.
  • Legacy Work: Preserving memories, stories, and final wishes.
  • Planning & Vigil: Guiding decisions regarding environment and atmosphere, and offering support during the final days.
  • Education: Helping families navigate the dying process.

Note: As a doula, I do not provide medical care; I walk beside you, focusing on the human experience.

Doula vs. Hospice

While hospice focuses on medical care, pain management, and physical needs, an end-of-life doula focuses on the holistic, non-medical needs of the person and their loved ones. They complement each other, with doula support available before, during, or after hospice care.

Who Can Benefit?

Support is available for those with serious illness, families needing guidance, those transitioning to hospice, or anyone seeking to create a meaningful, peaceful end-of-life experience.

Why This Work Matters

I believe the end of life deserves tenderness, dignity, and care. I help ensure that wishes are honored, stories are preserved, and that no one walks this road alone.
